5 Simple Kitchen Design Tips for a Functional and Stylish Space

Creating a kitchen that combines both functionality and style is a the goal for most homeowners. Whether you're remodeling your kitchen or designing a one from the begining, here are some simple tips to help you create a space that is both functional and visually appealing.

1. Prioritize Workflow: Take a look at the classic kitchen work triangle, which connects the stove, refrigerator, and sink. Ensure that these three key elements are positioned in a way that allows for efficient movement between them. This setup puts workflow first, which will make cooking and cleaning smoother and more convenient.

2. Maximize Storage: Effective and intentional storage solutions are key for keeping your kitchen organized and clutter-free. Incorporate cabinet space, drawers, and pantry storage to best fit your cookware, utensils, and ingredients. Take advantage of vertical space with tall cabinets or shelves, and consider installing pull-out spice racks or organizers for easy access to items stored in lower cabinets.

3. Choose Quality Materials: Invest in durable materials that will withstand the wear and tear of daily use (and kids) while also adding beauty to your kitchen. Opt for sturdy countertops like granite or quartz that are stain and scratch resistant. Select quality custom cabinetry with solid construction and finishes that complement your overall design aesthetic.

Incorporate a combination of overhead lighting, task lighting, and accent lighting to light up different areas and task stations. Take into consideration pendant lights above the island and sink for focused  lighting, under-cabinet lighting to illuminate countertops, and recessed lighting for overall ambient illumination.

5. Add Personal Touches: Display your personality through the design by incorporating personal touches and decorative elements. Display favorite cookbooks, artwork, or decorations on open shelves or countertops. Choose hardware, fixtures, and accessories that reflect your style, whether it's sleek and modern or rustic and cozy.
